Anger, questions after man is shot and killed by police in Minneapolis

Anger, questions after man is shot and killed by police in Minneapolis A north Minneapolis neighborhood was enveloped in anger, frustration and mourning Saturday night after a man was fatally shot by Minneapolis police. Authorities said the man was armed. Some at the scene disputed that. And once again, the city was left searching for answers in the wake of a shooting involving police. Several protests and vigils were set to take place in Minneapolis on Sunday. The man was identified by the Minneapolis NAACP and relatives at the scene as 31-year-old Thurman Blevins.

Hank Aaron on Whether He Would Go to the Trump White House: 'There's Nobody There I Want to See'

Hank Aaron on Whether He Would Go to the Trump White House: 'There's Nobody There I Want to See' Baseball legend and Hall of Famer Hank Aaron says that if he were on a championship roster today, he would not visit the Trump White House. Speaking at the “Hank Aaron Champion for Justice Awards” in Atlanta, “Hammerin’ Hank” voiced support for athletes who protest and speak out on social issues. “There’s nobody there I want to see,” Aaron  said  as he explained how he would handle a White House visit .  “I can understand where the players are coming from. I really do. I understand they have their own issues and things they feel conviction about. They have a right to that, and I probably would be the same way, there’s no question about it.” Championship pro and college sports teams began the tradition of visiting the White House to celebrate their success during the Reagan Administration. However, the practice became politically tinged, when athletes such as Go

Where Is Barack Obama?

Where Is Barack Obama? Abama was six months into his post–White House life when Donald Trump found a new way to grab his attention. It was a Tuesday morning deep in the mid-Atlantic summer, and, feeling a world away from the Pennsylvania Avenue grind, the former president was reading the New York  Times  on his iPad. The previous evening, Trump had visited West Virginia, where  he spoke at the annual Boy Scout Jamboree . Addressing a crowd of roughly 40,000, who were expecting the usual talk about citizenship and service, the president uncorked a political diatribe packed with jabs at Obama, Hillary Clinton, and the Washington, D.C., “cesspool”; reminders about the importance of saying “Merry Christmas”; and reminiscences of Election Night 2016 and the pundits he embarrassed. “You remember that incredible night with the maps, and the Republicans are red and the Democrats are blue, and that map was so red it was unbelievable. And they didn’t know what to say,” Trump told the

‘We’re Not The Obama Administration’ — Sarah Sanders Drops A Bomb On Obama’s Legacy White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders was asked if the Trump administration will change the way immigration laws are enforced during a Monday briefing “The president’s laid out what he would like to see,” she explained. “We’ve put out the things that we want to see in an immigration package months ago. We’re still waiting on Congress to give us the ability to do that.” The reporter then responded, “So unless Congress acts, nothing is actually going to change. The administration is not changing anything right now when it comes to judges — ” “You mean, are we walking around making up laws? No. Because we’re not the Obama administration. We’re enforcing the laws on the books. We’re asking Congress to do their part in the process and pass new legislation that will fix our immigration system.” “So, but nothing is actually changing on the ground,” the reporter continued. “This is —

White extinction anxiety

White extinction anxiety: Why this curious race-related term trended on Twitter Don't look up the phrase "white extinction anxiety" in a world history textbook. It's pretty unlikely that you'll find it, since the most relevant Google search results for the term lead to an opinion piece published just hours ago. What does the phrase mean? The author of the column, the New York Times op-ed writer Charles M Blow,  argues that  Donald Trump's contentious "zero tolerance" immigration policy  panders to white Americans' fear of losing their demographic majority in the US. "Strip all the other rationales away from this draconian immigration policy. This is at the core: White extinction anxiety, white displacement anxiety, white minority anxiety," Blow writes. "This is the fear and anxiety Trump is playing to." On Monday evening, Twitter listed "white extinction anxiety" among its worldwide trends. And Blow f
