President Trump Or Colin Kaepernick: Who Will Be Time Magazine's Person Of 2018?

President Trump Or Colin Kaepernick: Who Will Be Time Magazine's Person Of 2018? The editors preparing to select 2018 Time Magazine’s Person of the Year are set for a tricky choice, if the bookmakers are to be believed. According to betting prices aggregation website Oddscheckers, the 5-1 favourite is President Trump, followed closely by former NFL footballer Colin Kaepernick (15-2), technology entrepreneur Elon Musk (8-1), Russian president Vladimir Putin (8-1) and China’s paramount leader Xi Jinping (9-1). Crucially, the official Time Magazine criteria is not a moral judgement but simply the person, group, idea, or object that "for better or for worse... has done the most to influence the events of the year.” That may be so, but how is this event-influencing to be measured? Trump, whose presidential election clinched him the award in 2016, has seldom been out of the news this year. But, does that really leave him in line to join double winners Presidents Reagan, Cl

America’s Obsessive Suppression of Black Voters

America’s Obsessive Suppression of Black Voters Republican attempts to exclude African Americans from the polls echoes efforts by Southern whites that enabled the Jim Crow era. Brian Kemp currently holds two significant positions in Georgia politics, and he has been in the news for both of them. As the Republican nominee for governor, he is engaged in a fierce battle with Democrat Stacey Abrams, who, if she wins, would be the first female African-American governor in United States history. Polling indicates an extremely close race, one that could be decided by tens of thousands votes. Kemp is also Georgia’s current secretary of state, where one of his responsibilities is to oversee state elections. In that capacity, he has been engaged in a systematic campaign to restrict the number of Georgians allowed to cast ballots. In July 2017, Kemp’s office purged nearly 600,000 people, or 8 percent of the state’s registered voters, from the rolls; an estimated 107,000 of them we

In a tweet sent on Monday, Kelly Johnston, Campbell's vice president of government affairs, wrote that the Open Society Foundations has arranged for "troop carriers" and "rail cars" to support the caravan, which formed in Central America. Johnston's Twitter account has been deleted, and the tweet is no longer online. New York Times reporter Kenneth Vogel posted a screen grab of Johnston's tweet on Tuesday. Johnsto

Brian Kemp Caught on Tape Warning His Donors About Black People Voting... Again

Brian Kemp Caught on Tape Warning His Donors About Black People Voting... Again As Georgia’s Republican Candidate for Governor, Kemp would tell anyone willing to listen that he is not in favor of voter suppression. As Secretary of State and the man responsible for elections in Georgia, he would downplay the Associated Press analysis that shows 70 percent of the 53,000 voters he purged with his flawed “exact match” system were black. He would dispute the APM report that a disproportionate number of black voters were among the 107,000 voters purged from rolls using the “use it or lose it” law. Kemp would even dispute the ACLU lawsuit that alleges that Kemp’s office threw out at least 600 absentee ballots, including 1 in every 10 in the state’s most diverse county. Yet, despite Kemp’s assertions that he is simply trying to prevent voter fraud (which coincidentally, happens about as often as Kanye saying something smart or Donald Trump telling the truth—almost never) audio doesn’t lie

Trump admin official displayed a portrait of the KKK’s first grand wizard because he thought it was ‘nice’

Trump admin official displayed a portrait of the KKK’s first grand wizard because he thought it was ‘nice’ A senior Veterans Affairs official displayed a portrait of Confederate general and KKK grand wizard Nathan Bedford Forrest prominently in his taxpayer-funded office — and claimed he didn’t know about the figure’s sordid past. The Washington Post reported that David J. Thomas Sr., the deputy executive director of VA’s Office of Small and Disadvantaged Business Utilization, had the portrait hanging with a spotlight on it in his office until he was informed of Forrest’s history. “It was just a beautiful print that I had purchased, and I thought it was very nice,” Thomas said, noting that he thought of Forrest “as a southern general in the Civil War” and nothing more. He claimed that the portrait titled “No Surrender” had been languishing in his basement until he moved to a larger office a few months ago. Details Of Botham Jean’s Family Lawsuit Against Dallas Are Revealed

Details Of Botham Jean’s Family Lawsuit Against Dallas Are Revealed T he family of the Black man who was killed by a police officer in his own Dallas apartment last month still has plans to sue the city, according to a new report.  Botham Jean ’s family  announced their intentions  earlier this month to sue Dallas for civil rights violations, but the lawsuit was seemingly in limbo last week after Jean’s mother  said  some questions she had were being answered by officials. Lawyers representing the family revealed details of the pending lawsuit on Monday, showing exactly what Jean’s parents were hoping to accomplish with it. “Jean’s parents say they want their lawsuit to not just focus on how their son died, but to change how police officers are trained about when to fire their weapons,” the Dallas Morning News  reported  Monday afternoon. Part of the lawsuit will also focus on what Jean’s family has described as incompetence on the part of law enforcement, including Dallas Co

Eric Reid Calls Malcolm Jenkins a “Corrupt Sellout” After Near Physical Altercation During Pregame Sunday

Eric Reid Calls Malcolm Jenkins a “Corrupt Sellout” After Near Physical Altercation During Pregame Sunday Eric Reid called Philadelphia Eagles safety Malcolm Jenkins a “sellout” after the two were in a heated altercation before the Carolina Panthers’ 21-17 victory over the Eagles Oct. 21. According to reports, Reid and Jenkins had to be separated from each other after the two confronted each other midfield during pregame warmups Sunday. After the game, Reid spoke with reporters on why he has “beef” with Jenkins, explaining how believed the Eagles safety is a “sellout” against the Black community. “We believe a lot of players should have stepped up for Colin [Kaepernick]. I believe Malcolm capitalized on the situation. He co-opted the movement that was started by Colin to get his organization funded. It’s cowardly. He sold us out,” Reid told reporters, per B l e a c h e r R e p o r t . This isn’t the first time Reid has blasted Jenkins; he first called Jenkins a sello
