Steve King still doesn’t think of himself as racist

Steve King still doesn’t think of himself as racist Over the last few weeks, Iowa Rep. Steve King has defended white supremacy, been reprimanded by his own party leaders, and been stripped of his committee positions in Congress, yet in his mind, he has done nothing wrong — except agree to an interview with T h e N e w Y o r k T i m e s . While opening his first town hall since his r a c i s t r e m a r k s were published in print — when he told the T i m e s ’ Trip Gabriel, “White nationalist, white supremacist, Western civilization — how did that language become offensive?” — King said Saturday that his main regret was sitting down for the phone interview when he was only “half-ready.” “It is stunning and astonishing to me that four words in a N e w Y o r k T i m e s quote can outweigh 20-some years of public service,” he said to a crowd of roughly 70 people who attended the event in Primghar, Iowa. He remains adamant: “I am not a racist.” ”I’ve made more than

Naperville representative's 'white supremacist' comments sparking conver...

Freshman State Rep. Anne Stava-Murray, a Naperville Democrat, is standing by her comments about "white supremacist policies" in her hometown, saying she's unfazed by criticism and encouraged her words are starting conversations about historical and ongoing racism in the region. The 81st District representative, who also has launched a campaign for the U.S. Senate seat held by Dick Durbin, says what she sees in Naperville -- and the Chicago area as a whole -- is "white supremacy in an unclad kind of way, without its hood on." #whiteculture

Entertainers to Address Social Injustice Issues at Super Bowl, But Passionately Disagree on How

Entertainers to Address Social Injustice Issues at Super Bowl, But Passionately Disagree on How Some entertainers believe social injustice needs to be addressed during the Super Bowl and are ensuring the topic that ignited a political firestorm, engulfing the NFL, will be in the spotlight. They passionately disagree on how. Some will perform in Super Bowl-related events while others will be noticeably absent. Former NFL player Colin Kaepernick helped start a wave of protests by kneeling during the national anthem to raise awareness to police brutality, racial inequality and other social issues. Jermaine Dupri said he was called a “sellout” for hosting a Super Bowl-related event during a meeting with people who had lost family members as result police brutality. After the meeting, Dupri and the victims’ family members came to a compromise. The music mogul plans to give mothers a platform to speak onstage during his Super Bowl Live event in Atlanta. He hopes to bridge the ga

Pendleton votes to fire police chief over Facebook post; Farrer to appeal He's placed on paid administrative leave through appeal. He's placed on paid administrative leave through appeal. The Pendleton Town Council voted 3-2 Thursday to fire Pendleton Police Chief Marc Farrer over questionable social media posts that came to light last weekend. The decision was made during a tense public meeting following a nearly 90-minute executive session. "Social media is a curse and a blessing all in one package and you have to be very careful, not just as a citizen, but when you hold a position in a community," said Town Council President Jessica Smith after the council emerged from an executive session about the posts. "This is not an easy decision for any of us," Smith said before calling for the vote. "I think all of us would rather be somewhere else right now." Smith, Jessica Bastin and Chad Wolfe voted to terminate Farrer immedi

Importance of Indigenous Peoples March got overshadowed by 'the face of white privilege'

Importance of Indigenous Peoples March got overshadowed by 'the face of white privilege' 'A bunch of privileged white boys taunting a First Nations elder triggered old feelings from my past' The story behind the photo is a bewildering mix of three groups meeting in the same location. The boys from Covington Catholic High School were there to take part in the March for Life anti-abortion protest. They ran into a small fringe group calling themselves the "Black Hebrew Israelites" who hurled insults at passersby, including both the Covington boys and participants in the Indigenous Peoples March. Rather than ignore them, the Covington boys confronted them. Full article Click Link Above

Covington High Schoolers: If You Don't Want To Be Seen As Racist, Maybe Don't Wear A MAGA Cap

Covington High Schoolers: If You Don't Want To Be Seen As Racist, Maybe Don't Wear A MAGA Cap Polarized again. E pluribus duo! What a week. Viral videos of MAGA attired high school boys surround a chanting drum-beating Native American elder. The nation splits in two. Some go all in on Nicholas Sandmann being a good kid trying to defuse a situation. Others, including Nathan Phillips the Omaha elder, see racist hatred streaming from the boys’ smirks, chants and tomahawk chops.  It’s easy to dismiss this as just another knife fight in Trump’s racially polarized America (or scissors fight if you’re Ross Douthat). Pick a side and stand with your people. And once the fight starts, well, we’re all just fighting. No need to learn anything; just stand with your people. But there is an important lesson to be learned, one that is crucially relevant for the parents of white teenage boys.  Let’s remember that before the fight flared there was a beginning, back when the videos first
