Contemporary forms of hispanophobia in the United States

During the  Great Depression , the U.S. government sponsored a  Mexican Repatriation  program which was intended to encourage Mexican immigrants to voluntarily return to Mexico, however, many were forcibly removed against their will. In total, up to one million persons of Mexican ancestry were deported, approximately 60 percent of those individuals were actually U.S. citizens. The  Zoot Suit riots  were vivid incidents of racial violence against Latinos (e.g.,  Mexican-Americans ) in Los Angeles in 1943.  https://www.whytheracecardisplayed.com/post/contemporary-forms-of-hispanophobia-in-the-united-states

A Narrative Study Of Black Males Sense Of Belonging In Graduate Counseling Programs [click pdf]

I want to acknowledge all the Black males and females pursuing their doctoral degrees in all disciplines, but specifically counselor education. You are placed in situations that are not always favorable, but yet with resiliency you all find a way to shine in a room with little to no light. I know there are times when you feel like giving up, but you continue to push forward, creating a path for younger Black males and females to follow. I want to also thank the participants Jason, Steve, and Jamal (pseudonyms), for your willingness to share your experiences with the world.  https://www.whytheracecardisplayed.com/post/a-narrative-study-of-black-males-sense-of-belonging-in-graduate-counseling-programs-pdf

Hunting down runaway slaves: The cruel ads of Andrew Jackson and ‘the master class’

“Stop the Runaway,” Andrew Jackson urged in an ad placed in the Tennessee Gazette in October 1804. The future president gave a detailed description: A “Mulatto Man Slave, about thirty years old, six feet and an inch high, stout made and active, talks sensible, stoops in his walk, and has a remarkable large foot, broad across the root of the toes — will pass for a free man.…”

Before 1619, there was 1526: The mystery of the first enslaved Africans in what became the United States

Spanish explorers brought 100 slaves to a doomed settlement in South Carolina or Georgia. Within weeks, the subjugated revolted, then vanished.

A symbol of slavery — and survival

The transatlantic slave trade was already more than a century old and thriving when the first Africans reached Virginia.

They were once America’s cruelest, richest slave traders. Why does no one know their names?

Slave trading was a “game.” The men, Isaac Franklin and John Armfield, were daring “pirates” or “one-eyed men,” a euphemism for their penises. The women they bought and sold were “fancy maids,” a term signifying youth, beauty and potential for sexual exploitation — by buyers or the traders themselves. https://www.whytheracecardisplayed.com/post/they-were-once-america-s-cruelest-richest-slave-traders-why-does-no-one-know-their-names
