Dungey, the first African-American to head programming at a major broadcast network, canceled her network's top-rated show of the 2017-18 TV season on Tuesday, "Roseanne," after racist tweets by the show's star, Roseanne Barr. Dungey couldn't have taken an action of that magnitude in a vacuum. She reports to Disney-ABC TV Group chief Ben Sherwood, who in turn answers to  Disney CEO Robert Iger, who publicly backed the decision , tweeting, "There was only one thing to do here, and that was the right thing." Black defendants get longer sentences from Republican-appointed judges, study finds WASHINGTON — Judges appointed by Republican presidents gave longer sentences to black defendants and shorter ones to women than judges appointed by Democrats, according to a new study that analyzed data on more than half a million defendants.  “Republican-appointed judges sentence black defendants to three more months than similar non-blacks and female defendants to two fewer months than similar males compared to Democratic-appointed judges,” the study found, adding, “These differences cannot be explained by other judge characteristics and grow substantially larger when judges are granted more discretion.”  The study was conducted by two professors at Harvard Law School, Alma Cohen and Crystal S. Police officer faces charges for ‘racist’ Facebook posts A police officer is in hot water and facing a case of crimen injuria for his alleged racist post on social media. ANCYL Provincial Executive Committee member Percy Sithole has opened a case at the Heidelberg police department after one of its officers began posting allegedly racist remarks on his Facebook profile. The officer, Riaan van Rensburg, shared a series of Facebook posts that later sparked outrage on social media.

A.J. Francis says Redskins' logo 'racist' after he joins Giants Defensive tackle  A.J. Francis  found a new job just days after being released by the  Washington Redskins  and celebrated the moment by ripping his old team on Instagram, including calling out their "racist" logo. Francis signed with the  New York Giants  on Wednesday. He was one of three defensive tackles released by the Redskins on Monday after they selected two defensive tackles in the draft. After signing with the Giants, Francis posted an Instagram picture of himself laughing. He wrote, "When the team you were on didn't appreciate you but the team you played against actually pays attention to the film," and added in the hashtags he was looking forward to playing the Redskins twice next season.
