Supreme Court upholds Trump's controversial travel ban: What we know now The Supreme Court on Tuesday  upheld President Donald Trump's controversial and much-litigated order limiting travel  into the United States from several countries, most of them Muslim-majority nations. The ruling restricts entry and tightens vetting for travelers bound for the U.S. from Iran, Libya, Somalia, Syria and Yemen. North Korea and some government officials in Venezuela also are part of the ban but were not involved in the legal challenge. Chief Justice John Roberts, who wrote the opinion, said the issue came down to the power of the president. "The proclamation is squarely within the scope of presidential authority," Roberts wrote. Trump, however, said the ruling showed that he was right — and that liberals, Democrats and the media were wrong in deriding the ban. African-American students with disabilities suspended at disproportionately high rates The  report , “Disabling Punishment: The Need for Remedies to the Disparate Loss of Instruction Experienced by Black Students with Disabilities,” extrapolated its findings from federal data from 2014-15 and 2015-16, the last year for which it is available. Released last month, it examined only white and black students, in part because research has found that black students overall are suspended at the highest rates of all student groups. The report found that nationwide, for every 100 students with special needs in 2015-16, white students lost 43 days to suspension, while black students lost 121 days. The findings showed a slight increase in disparity between the two groups over the previous year.

A.J. Francis says Redskins' logo 'racist' after he joins Giants Defensive tackle  A.J. Francis  found a new job just days after being released by the  Washington Redskins  and celebrated the moment by ripping his old team on Instagram, including calling out their "racist" logo. Francis signed with the  New York Giants  on Wednesday. He was one of three defensive tackles released by the Redskins on Monday after they selected two defensive tackles in the draft. After signing with the Giants, Francis posted an Instagram picture of himself laughing. He wrote, "When the team you were on didn't appreciate you but the team you played against actually pays attention to the film," and added in the hashtags he was looking forward to playing the Redskins twice next season.

Man killed by KCK police previously received $300k settlement for police brutality KANSAS CITY, Kan. --  A man shot and killed by Kansas City Kansas police  Wednesday  had previously sued the Kansas City Missouri Police Department for excessive force. Multiple sources confirm to the 41 Action News Investigators that the victim is Manuel Palacio, 27. As of Thursday morning, police have not said what led to the shooting, which happened just across the street from New Chelsea Elementary School. Only saying, the suspect was armed.

PCF Draws Attention to Prostate Cancer Disparity among African American Men      One out of nine American men are likely to be diagnosed with prostate cancer. However, 74 percent of African American men are more likely to be diagnosed with prostate cancer than White men and are twice as likely to die from the disease. In honor of National Minority Health month, the  Los Angeles Sentinel  spoke with Prostate Cancer Foundation (PCF) CEO and President, Dr. Johnathan Simon about the disparity of the disease and how men of African descent can better their chances of prevention.
