CBS rejects pro-flag, anti-Kaepernick ‘Just Stand’ Super Bowl ad

A veteran-owned apparel company’s pro-flag Super Bowl TV ad that punches back at Nike's promotion of Colin Kaepernick and his national anthem protests has been rejected by CBS. According to the firm, Nine Line Apparel,CBS was apparently not satisfied the firm could pay for the 45-second ad, despite having annual revenues of $25 million. A spokesman for Nine Line charged that CBS didn’t like the ad’s content. The ad features soldiers, first responders, and images of military graves decorated with American flags and gives credit to them for protecting the rights of those like Kaepernick to protest. #adsaysnothingaboutpoliceviolence

Jackie Robinson: A Legacy of Activism

Jackie Robinson: A Legacy of Activism Before there was Rosa Parks, there was Jackie Robinson. On July 6, 1944, Robinson—a 25-year army lieutenant—boarded a military bus at Fort Hood, Texas with the light-skinned wife of another black officer and sat down next to her in the middle of the vehicle. “Hey you, sittin’ beside that woman,” the driver yelled. “Get to the back of the bus.” Robinson refused, knowing that buses had been officially desegregated on military bases. When the driver threatened to have him arrested, Robinson shook his finger in the driver’s face and told him, “quit fucking with me.” Two military policemen soon arrived and escorted Robinson away.  "Not much has changed. Im sure Jackie would be proud." -jonathan donnell riley Full Article https://prospect.org/article/jackie-robinson-legacy-activism

You black boys are nothing but trouble,'” Hawkins told the local Missouri outlet. “[My son] just looked at [the teacher] and he couldn’t believe what he was saying. Amber Guyger's new look is no accident, say attorneys skilled in remakin...

Former police officer Amber Guyger had a new look in court Tuesday in Dallas — and that was no accident, legal experts say. Guyger, 30, struck a softer appearance than she did earlier this month for her second courthouse visit since being indicted on a murder charge in the death of Botham Jean.  A change in body language and clothes is common for defendants trying to win over a judge and jury, legal experts say. "Every time she is appearing at the courthouse, the public and, ultimately, her jury is looking at her," said George Milner III, a local defense attorney. "A defense attorney would make every effort to have their client present to the media a look that is consistent with innocence." #KUTOSHA

Portland Sergeant: ‘If You Come Across a Black Person, Just Shoot Them’

Portland Sergeant: ‘If You Come Across a Black Person, Just Shoot Them’ According to one account, Lewis told officers to “be smart” about who they removed from inside parking garages for being intoxicated. Lewis, according to this officer, said, “If you come across a guy in a suit and tie that came downtown and had a little too much to drink…he’s probably not the guy you want to detox straight out of the garage. He will most likely sue you. If it’s a homeless guy, you will probably be safe. I doubt he‘s going to sue you.” Around this time at the roll call, someone mentioned the shooting of Hayes by Officer Andrew Hearst. The person voiced dismay about comments posted online in reaction to an Oregonian/OregonLive article. The commenter contended officers shoot to kill black people but only wound white people. “Officers began talking about this statement, and then I heard Sergeant Lewis state, ‘Well, let’s just go out and kill all the black people,’” according to the letter

Detroit cop forcing African-American woman to walk home in dangerously f...

A Michigan police officer forced a young black woman to walk home in frigid weather after a traffic stop, and then mocked her on social media. The officer stopped Ariel Moore in Detroit on Tuesday for having expired license plate tags, and then made her leave the car there and walk, reported WXYZ-TV. Temperatures at the time were below freezing. The officer, identified as Gary Steele, then recorded video of Moore walking away from her car and shared it on social media. Steele can be heard making condescending remarks about Moore in the Snapchat video, which was captioned “what black girl magic looks like” and “celebrating Black History Month.” Steele has been restricted to administration duty while the incident is investigated by internal affairs, according to the TV station. The same officer was charged in 2008 with physically attacking his ex-girlfriend and firing a gun next to her head, and Steele accepted a plea agreement on misdemeanor charges that allowed to remain a polic

Ethiopian Israelis Rally in Tel Aviv Against Police Violence

Earlier this month, a policeman shot dead 24-year-old Yehuda Biadga, a mentally distressed man wielding a knife, in the Tel Aviv suburb of Bat Yam. Israel’s Justice Ministry is investigating the incident. Biadga’s family accused police of excessive force, and protest organizers called the incident “the straw that broke the camel’s back” after years of perceived discrimination by Israeli authorities. "I always here white people here in the us telling black people to leave. Leave? And go where? Back to Africa is a popular chant. But there is racism and a serious Neo-Nazi movement in the west. South Africa? I dont think i have to mention how blacks are treated there. The Latino nations have the same issue with darker skinned individuals (plus i dont speak Spanish). Israel? A few years ago a Israeli mob attacked and burned African owned businesses downtown. With their own history, you would think they would be less violent against another race of people. So. I ask you racist white ma

Clemson Football’s Black Players Mostly Skipped Trump’s ‘Hamberder’ Dinner

Clemson Football’s Black Players Mostly Skipped Trump’s ‘Hamberder’ Dinner Trump failed to notice that the majority of the team’s black players chose not to attend the crinkly-bag food dinner. According to a new report from the Root — coming two weeks after the initial banquet took place on January 14 — almost three-fourths of Clemson’s black players declined Trump’s invitation, citing the president’s racism and disapproval of his divisive behavior as reasons not to attend. The Root spoke with three black players who confirmed that many team members, both black and white, showed no interest in the White House visit — though on the night of the fast food dinner, most of Clemson’s white players did attend. “It wasn’t like we had a team meeting or anything,” said a Clemson offensive player. “Players were talking amongst each other but everybody was like: ‘I’m not going to that.’” "Social Obedience is OK with me! When a crown is passed

When a crown is passed No one knows exactly when it happens. But after it does, everybody knows. People can literally feel it. Because its powerful. One reign over. And new one beginning. It happens not so often on a big platform like music. One can't feel when a drug kingpin in Detroit is taken over by his young rival. The world doesn't feel it when a CEO is forced out. Then replaced by his apprentice. The stage, and interests for these transfers of power are not big enough. But on a platform as large and universal as music, it makes waves. When a lion takes over territory from another the lion roars constantly after the fight. This is to let everyone know that a change has come. And that he is in charge now. And in a competitive genre like hip-hop, the shift is even louder. Fans take note first. Then the artist who takes over, then the artists who's replaced. Then come the numbers from sells. The number of views on social media. Then questions fr

As Travis Scott Keeps Getting Hit Over Super Bowl Performance, Kylie Jenner Uses Cute Baby Stormi Milestone Video To Calm Things Down

As Travis Scott Keeps Getting Hit Over Super Bowl Performance, Kylie Jenner Uses Cute Baby Stormi Milestone Video To Calm Things Down In an attempt to change the conversation over Travis Scott’s Super Bowl halftime show scandal, Kylie Jenner has decided to share a cute video of Stormi Webster taking her first steps. In the brief clip, Stormi, who will be one in early February, can be seen holding Kylie’s hand as she takes her first steps. The video surfaced just days after Nick Cannon slammed Travis’ decision to perform at the Super Bowl. Travis lied and claimed he spoke to activist Colin Kaepernick before accepting the gig. Nick said: “The people you choose to interact with. The people you choose to procreate with… That decision wasn’t for the culture.” Mariah Carey’s ex-husband added: “I call it cultural equity. We not mad at Big Boi…he’s for the people. But someone like Travis Scott, he gotta walk more gingerly. It’s more about truly having the integrity to who you ar

Millwall fans found guilty of racism will face lifetime ban from club

Millwall fans found guilty of racism will face lifetime ban from club Millwall have followed up the FA's launch of an investigation into alleged racist chanting during the clubs FA Cup victory over Everton, with a statement that any fans found guilty will face a lifetime ban. Millwall's dramatic 3-2 win  was marred by crowd trouble outside the ground and videos have now emerged which appear to show some home fans singing racist chants during the match. A club statement was unequivocal in its summation as to the consequences for those found guilty. "Millwall Football Club is aware of, and extremely disappointed by, a video circulating online displaying alleged racist chanting during Saturday's victory over Everton. "The club will, as is commonplace following such incidents, work with all relevant authorities during investigations into the matter and look to identify individuals involved. Anyone identified and guilty of such abuse will be banned from The

The Disturbing, Surprisingly Complex Relationship Between White Identity Politics and Racism

The Disturbing, Surprisingly Complex Relationship Between White Identity Politics and Racism In her new book, “ White Identity Politics ,” the Duke political scientist Ashley Jardina examines the increasing relevance of white identity in America. Drawing on data from American National Election Studies surveys and her own research, Jardina finds that about thirty to forty per cent of white Americans say that white identity is important to them, and she adds an interesting twist—that this group only partly overlaps with the group of white Americans who hold racist views. According to Jardina’s analysis, about thirty-eight per cent of white people who highly value their white identity are at or below the mean level of racial resentment, while forty-four per cent of white people who say their racial identity is less important are at or above that level. “For those invested in racial equality, this outcome should be of little comfort,” Jardina writes, of white Americans asserting their

The US president said to remember those who were murdered and survived the Holocaust was to strive to prevent such suffering from happening again, adding: “We remain committed to the post-Holocaust imperative, ‘Never Again’.” His statement said: “We hold in our hearts the memory of every man, woman, and child who was abused, tortured, or murdered during the Holocaust.  “To remember these men and women – those who perished and those who survived – is to strive to prevent such suffering from happening again.
