UP OR DOWN? AFRICAN AMERICAN VIOLENT CRIME DURING THE 80s 90s 00s THE 80s According to the US Department of Justice, The were no fewer than 24,500 murders during the 1980s. Of those, African Americans accounted for 12,862 or 52.5% of those violent crimes during the 1980s. During that time, most homicides were intraracial. With 84% of White victims killed by other Whites and 93% of African American victims killed by other African Americans. THE 90s Begining in 1991, the number of homicides reached an all-time high of 24,703. Then fell rapidly to 15,522 homicides by 1999. Of those during the 1900s, AA made up 49% of violent crime in America. Which is around 12,000 of the 24,703 violent crimes in the 1990s. THE 2000s During 2010-2019, around 19,374 Murders were commited. African Americans accounted for 10,190 of those or 52.6% of those violent crimes with in the last decade Overall, from 2018-2019.
