White Liberal Woman Doesn’t Understand Why African-American Men Would Be NRA, Tea Party Members

White Liberal Woman Doesn’t Understand Why African-American Men Would Be NRA, Tea Party Members Liberal feminist and author Kimberley Johnson is a contributor at the Huffington Post. One look at her Twitter feed and it becomes abundantly clear she is planted firmly on the far left of the political spectrum. She's a big fan of Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren and regularly calls President Trump a white supremacist. This week, Johnson tweeted that she was "confused" after seeing an affluent African-American man driving a BMW with NRA and Tea Party bumper stickers.  "It was pretty evident that she made an assumption about a black man in a BMW based on bumper stickers he had on his car," Noir said, inviting Johnson to come on his show for a discussion.  "It bothered me because it prejudged me as somebody who can't believe a certain thing simply due to my race."

Woman calls cops on black Oregon lawmaker campaigning in her district

Woman calls cops on black Oregon lawmaker campaigning in her district While campaigning in her district, the cops were called on a black lawmaker as she was meeting voters door to door. Rep. Janelle Bynum represents the 51st District in the Oregon House of Representatives, which encompasses Clackamas County, where she was canvassing a neighborhood when the police were called Tuesday. The Democrat was 1.5 miles away from her own home at the time, she said. Bynum told ABC News that upon being approached by the officer, she was in disbelief and just “wanted to know why I had triggered suspicion.” The officer mentioned that the caller was suspicious because she was spending a lot of time typing at the end of driveways, Bynum said. “She is not in any business or has any badge or anything," the caller stated on the 911 call, adding that “she spends more time at the end of the driveway when people aren’t home.”

Black homeownership is stuck near 30-year lows

Black homeownership is stuck near 30-year lows In many way, African-Americans have regained the ground lost during the financial crisis. Many are finding jobs and getting raises. But the holy grail of homeownership remains elusive. Forty-three percent of blacks owned homes in 2017, according to an annual report from the Joint Center for Housing Studies of  Harvard University . In contrast, 72 percent of whites did, a gap that has mostly widened during the past three decades. "The overall frustration is, I am a working citizen. I pay my taxes. I'm doing a job to help kids," said Tillery, whose nonprofit helps children with disabilities. "It's better for me to own a home. I'm 42. I don't want to continue renting." There aren't many homes in the area that fall into her price range of $200,000 or less. When she sees a listing she can afford, she either loses out to a buyer who will pay more or waive contingencies or learns that the p

Great Lengths: Do You Know Where Your Bundles Come From?

Great Lengths: Do You Know Where Your Bundles Come From? It’s a brief, but revealing look at an industry in which women are consistently exploited, sometimes being offered as little as $2-$3 dollars for a head or hair that will retail for hundreds—or, in the case of tonsure, sacrificing it to temples that will make millions off of the profits. As Lebsack notes in a voiceover, “One constant in all of this is that the hair trade sets up shop wherever women are the most disenfranchised.” Dearman, whose custom-made wigs adorn some of the most famous heads in the world, humbly admits, “I try to source from people who I know where the hair is coming from, but I don’t know.” Hailes, founder of Los Angeles, Ca. hair bar  Just Extensions , thinks most people who benefit from the hair trade—either as clients, manufacturers or brokers—neither know nor care where the hair comes from. After her own experience with unscrupulous hair sellers, Hailes traveled across six countries—Peru, Ma

Black Man Forced to Crawl at Gunpoint After Police Thwart Imaginary Robbery

Black Man Forced to Crawl at Gunpoint After Police Thwart Imaginary Robbery California officers prevented a nonexistent armed robbery by holding a man at gunpoint and forcing him to crawl on the ground as his uncle and girlfriend watched in horror. Vincent Lemar, who posted a video of the incident to Facebook, said he and his nephew Levell Johnson were attempting to leave the Fresno, Calif., T-Mobile store when Lemar spotted a police officer with his weapon drawn. Lemar alerted his 26-year-old nephew and as Johnson exited the store, the police pointed guns at Johnson and told him to lie face down on the pavement and crawl toward them using his fingers. In the video, you can hear cops use a bullhorn to shout instructions at Johnson. Meanwhile, Johnson’s girlfriend can be seen in the parking lot, watching the entire incident from yards away while police say they were “being confronted” her.

Uncensored: Alexandra Shipp Attempts to Clarify Those Colorism Comments for Glamour Magazine Alexandra Shipp will not be censored. The 27-year-old actress was best known for her roles in the 2014 biopic,  Aaliyah: The Princess of R&B  and 2015's Oscar-nominated  Straight Outta Compton  before being cast as Marvel superhero Storm in 2016's  X-Men: Apocalypse ; but Shipp sparked a storm of her own on social media last year when she pushed back against criticism of the biracial actress playing the role (which was portrayed onscreen by fellow biracial actress Halle Berry from 2000 to 2014). In an ill-advised choice of words, Shipp compared colorism to racism, derailing what could’ve been a constructive and always much-needed conversation about colorism in Hollywood into a war of words—and triggering some understandably deep emotions on both sides.

Study future teachers are already biased against black

Study future teachers are already biased against black That black school children are treated more harshly than white children by teachers is no secret, as  plenty of studies  and  painful anecdotes  have repeatedly shown. But some recent research  published  in the journal  Contemporary Educational Psychology suggests an even more discouraging reality: The incoming generation of teachers shows bias against black kids, too. Researchers at North Carolina State University and elsewhere recruited 40 college students (most of whom were white) who were training to become teachers. They asked the volunteers to look at pictures of 20 black and white men and women, and then to identify one of five emotions the actors were showing (happiness, anger, surprise, sadness, or fear). A previous experiment by the researchers used 20 human volunteers and facial recognition software to pinpoint the emotion shown in each photo.

private school in uproar over plan to 'segregate' students by race The Little Red School House in New York’s West Village, which has tuition fees of $45,485 per year, told parents last month that non-white middle school students will be placed in the same homeroom in the fall, the New York Post reported. They learned that the race-based placement, implemented by Director Philip Kassen, already had been in effect for seventh and eighth graders during the 2017-18 school year. The historically progressive school reportedly counts the children of celebrities including David Schwimmer and Christy Turlington Burns among its student body. Kassen did not respond to Fox News' request for comment. The New York Post reports that each grade, which has approximately 40 students, has two homerooms. Students remain with their homeroom groups for 30 percent of the school day.

89-year-old black grandmother forced to use bathroom outside after NC gas station refuses to let her use theirs An attendant at a North Carolina  gas station refused to let a black 89-year-old woman use the store’s restroom  — forcing her to relieve herself outside in 90-degree weather. Charlotte, NC’s WBTV reported that Evelyn Redic was on a church trip when the van she was riding in had a flat tire. According to Redic’s granddaughter, Katossa Glover, the attendant at the Shell gas station denied her use of the store’s facilities despite her age and frailty. Redic’s granddaughter noted in her now-viral post that the elderly woman had just been released from the hospital after having a stroke — a fact one of her fellow churchgoers explained to the attendant. Nevertheless, they continued to refuse her request to use the employees-only restroom. Redic then went outside and used the bathroom in the grass alongside the station in the heat, and according to the report, had t

According to  The Root , the funeral was going just fine until one attendee went to hug another, and in the process accidentally knocked over a chalice and damaged it. its-2018-and-these-trash-bags-are-still-erecting confed To see the ways in which a country views itself, and its history, you need look no further than its monuments and memorials. These civic markers act as modes of remembrance, imploring onlookers to remember great historical feats and figures (as the Lincoln Memorial does), or to reflect on a complicated past (as the Vietnam War memorial does). Which is why it’s notable that in 2018, racist assholes are still erecting Confederate memorials. The latest slab of marble bullshit was put up near Mobile, Ala., this past May by the Sons of Confederate Veterans, a non-profit group founded in 1896 that seeks to memorialize and pay tribute to soldiers who fought against the United States to preserve the practice of human bondage. “A memorial to the Confederate Soldiers. Fighting for their independence,” reads the inscription at the base of the monument.
