Firefighter acquitted of spitting on black child at Missouri Hooters OVERLAND PARK, Kan. - A white Kansas City, Missouri, firefighter has been acquitted of spitting on a black 3-year-old at a suburban Hooters restaurant, uttering a racial slur and threatening the child's grandfather. The Kansas City Star reports that 42-year-old Terrence ``Jeremy'' Skeen was found not guilty Wednesday of battery, assault and disorderly conduct in Overland Park, Kansas, Municipal Court. Judge Cynthia Cornwell said that the witness statements were incomplete and contradictory. Surveillance video was shown but didn't capture the key portions of what prosecutors alleged happened in February when the toddler wandered away from a birthday celebration.

Former sheriff says yes ORLANDO, Fla.  - The split-second decision by Orlando police officers to open fire at the speeding driver of a late-model van in the parking lot of Colonial Plaza Monday afternoon was justified, former Orange County Sheriff Kevin Beary said. Orlando Police Chief John Mina said the officers were in the area of Colonial Plaza Shopping Center near Bumby Avenue and Colonial Drive on Monday when they were flagged down by a loss prevention officer at Marshall's, who notified them of a crime in progress. Mina said the suspects were trying to get away when the officers fired at the vehicle. The driver was struck by police gunfire and continued to drive away, leaving the shopping center, and  was found dead near Langford Park soon after the shooting.

A hotel clerk was caught on video calling a black customer a monkey. He’s been fired. An employee at a Virginia hotel was fired this week after he was recorded on video using an expletive and a racial slur during a confrontation with a black customer. The video shows the unnamed hotel clerk angrily walking from behind the reception desk, opening the door leading to the lobby and screaming at the customer to “get off my property” as he points his right arm in one direction.
