Video released on Thursday that showed a 15-year-old suspect being taken into custody included officers kicking the teen and screaming expletive-laced insults at him. "On May 17, 2018, officers were investigating an armed robbery and located a 15-year-old suspect, who was arrested and subsequently charged with multiple counts including armed robbery and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon," the MPD said in a statement released Thursday. "After a review of body worn camera footage, an internal investigation was initiated, two of the officers were placed on administrative leave." Mother of New Jersey mayor blames Koreans for son's possible reelection defeat in racist rant The longtime mayor of Palisades Park, N.J., apologized Thursday on behalf of his elderly mother for penning a racist rant as her son trailed his Korean-American opponent in the Democratic primary. James Rotundo rushed to defend her — but not the Facebook post she penned accusing Koreans of committing voter fraud,  NorthJersey.com reported . "Go to hell PALISADES PARK, let the GD Koreans have this F'n town," Lorraine Rotundo wrote, according to the newspaper. "All of us AMERICANS are so done. I am going to suggest that only English be spoken in our Boro Hall at least while an AMERICAN is still the mayor." Rotundo told the paper he told his mother to delete the Facebook post.

The case for shutting down New York City’s Rikers Island jail Sixteen-year-old Kalief Browder and a friend were walking home from a party in May 2010 when they were stopped by police officers, who were responding to a 911 call and arrested Browder for allegedly stealing a backpack. The two teenagers ended up in a holding cell in the 48th Precinct, and Browder was eventually charged with grand larceny. He spent the next three years imprisoned in Rikers Island, awaiting a trial that never came, including 18 months in solitary confinement. A  video  from the New Yorker reveals that he was beaten by officers during his time at the prison.

Starbucks just raised the price of its coffee across the US  Starbucks has quietly  raised its prices  on drip coffee, so that cup of joe will be about 10 to 20 cents pricier, as first reported by  The Wall Street Journal.  The price hike comes  less than a year after  the coffee chain raised the price on select beverages by up to 30 cents. This year, Starbucks has been facing increasing scrutiny over how it treats certain patrons — particularly customers of color — and  closed all locations last month  for an afternoon of racial sensitivity training for employees (or partners). The chain also updated its policy to allow anyone to use store bathrooms or sit at tables in any of their locations with  no purchase required.

Cell phone  footage tweeted out Friday  that has been viewed over 700,000 times, shows officers handcuffing a young boy, identified by NBC News affiliate Chicago 5  as Michael Thomas Jr., while questioning him about a gun. Chicago police say the officers didn’t do anything wrong . Police said they had received multiple calls about a young boy with a gun, and said Thomas ran away from them at first when they approached, according to the news outlet. “Keep in mind, this is difficult for an officer to tell right off the bat if you’re 10 years old, 12 years old [or] 14… So they handcuffed the kid for safety reasons,” Chicago Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson

Rogue Baltimore police unit ringleader Wayne Jenkins sentenced The leader of a rogue Baltimore police unit sobbed as he was sentenced to 25 years in prison in a corruption scandal prosecutors called "breathtaking". Ex-police sergeant Wayne Earl Jenkins apologised in court for the crimes he committed while heading an elite squad called the Gun Trace Task Force (GTTF). "I'm wrong, God knows I'm wrong," the 37-year-old said. "I'm so sorry to the citizens of Baltimore." He was arrested along with almost every member of the unit in March 2017. Jenkins must serve three years of supervised release after his custodial sentence. He was convicted on multiple counts including racketeering, robbery and falsification of records. Jenkins pleaded guilty in January and admitted taking part in at least 10 robberies of Baltimore citizens, planting drugs on innocent people and re-selling drugs he stole from suspects on an almost daily basis, i
