Black teacher in NY school told she’s not allowed to eat ‘whites only’ food in faculty lounge: lawsuit A new lawsuit filed by a black English teacher at a New York high school claims that she has for years been subjected to shocking racial harassment from both students and from fellow faculty members. N B C N e w s r e p o r t s that Andrea Bryan recently filed a lawsuit against the Commack School District on Long Island, where she has spent the past 17 years working as the district’s only black teacher. Among other things, the suit alleges that Bryan was told by a colleague that a bag of peanuts sitting on the table in the faculty lounge was for “whites only,” and was also asked by the same colleague to “translate slave talk” while reading the part of a black character in Arthur Miller’s “The Crucible.” Even though her complaint about this colleague did get him demoted, she says that she subsequently “was ostracized and made a pariah within the department” for her

California Women’s March rally canceled over concerns that it would be ‘overwhelmingly white’

California Women’s March rally canceled over concerns that it would be ‘overwhelmingly white’ A Women’s March group is canceling its January rally in Humboldt County, Calif., over concerns that its participants would be “overwhelmingly white.” The decision comes amid division and tension in the broader Women’s March movement, which has unified millions of women and men in protest in the past two years. Organizers of the 2019 Eureka Women’s March, originally scheduled for Jan. 19, said in a statement that the decision came after numerous conversations with leading local activists and supporters of the march. “Up to this point, the participants have been overwhelmingly white, lacking representation from several perspectives in our community,” the Facebook statement read. “Instead of pushing forward with crucial voices absent, the organizing team will take time for more outreach.” The Eureka group, which does not appear to be an official California chapter of the Women’s March, said it

Miami Dolphins' Robert Quinn complains about lack of coverage for his protest during national anthem

Miami Dolphins' Robert Quinn complains about lack of coverage for his protest during national anthem Colin Kaepernick has received a ton of publicity for his protests during the national anthem, but he can't seem to find a job in the NFL. Miami Dolphins defensive end Robert Quinn has the opposite problem. Quinn lashed out at reporters Thursday over the lack of coverage he’s received over his fist-raised protest during the national anthem, something he's done since joining the Dolphins in the offseason, according to the Miami Herald. “Y’all ignore it. Because when I gave my first message on trying to bring unity, y’all swept it under the rug. It’s not me. When you don’t give a problematic story, y’all just ran away,” Quinn said. “You’ve got this lady named Cyntoia Brown, or whatever her name is, and you sent her to life in prison because she was being sex trafficked,” he said, referencing a woman who was sentenced to life in prison for a murder she committed when she was

Black teacher claims LI school district ignored rampant racism

Black teacher claims LI school district ignored rampant racism Teachers in a Long Island school district allegedly did their best to keep the workplace “for whites only,” says a black educator who claims she endured years of racial discrimination there. English teacher Andrea Bryan alleges that the Commack school district, where she’s been the only black instructor for 17 years, has long ignored her complaints and pleas for help. When she asked if food in a staff lounge was for everyone, a popular coworker responded, “for whites only,” Bryan claims in a suit in Manhattan Federal Court. The same teacher asked her, “Andrea, can you translate slave talk for me?” referring to a black character in Arthur Miller’s “The Crucible,” Bryan charges. When she complained and the colleague was demoted, Bryan said she “was ostracized and made a pariah within the department,” according to the suit. Another coworker ignored Bryan when she tried to ask a question during a professional training sessio

What are they complaining about?

What are they complaining about? Choose to have an abortion, the state pays for it through government funds. Choose to have the child, the state pays for it through government funds. Both decisions are legal. Both decisions are made by millions of females. Both decisions are paid for by the federal government (Hyde Amendment, Medicaid, Vouchers, Fee Assistance, Subsides), So why are both sides fighting? Either way your gonna get paid. One side says that their fighting for lives, but its not their child who's dying. The other side says they're fighting for their right to choose. But that desicion has already been made (Row v Wade). Neither side pays out of their own pocket for either decision. That being said, So it brings up the question, what are both sides complaining about? Are pro-choicers and pro-lifers fighting over the lives of children and the right to choose? Or are both sides simply fighting for extras to rights that they already have? Ahh.>3 Patreon.com/theicon

Eric Reid Not Sure What To Expect In Free Agency After Standout Season

Eric Reid Not Sure What To Expect In Free Agency After Standout Season On the surface, Eric Reid should be one of the most sought-after safeties in the NFL when he re-enters the free agent market this offseason. The 27-year-old has put together a terrific season despite not joining the Panthers until late September. Entering Carolina’s Week 17 matchup with the Saints, Reid has 66 tackles, three for a loss, one QB hit, one sack, one interception and five passes defended in 12 games. He’s far exceeded the value of the one-year, $1.39 million contract that landed him with the Panthers. Now, he’s looking for “market value,” according to The Charlotte Observer’s Marcel Louis-Jacques. While Reid’s play this season has warranted a handsome payday, stats likely won’t be the only factor teams consider when weighing whether or not to sign him. Reid, a former 49er and social justice protest partner of Colin Kaepernick’s — he’s continued to kneel during the national anthem while Kaepernick rema
