Nick Cannon & The National Anthem

Kaepernick began speaking out against the NFL’s lack of support for social issues targeting communities of color 2016, when he bravely knelt on the field during the playing of the national anthem at an NFL game. In an interview following the game, Kaepernick elaborated on his reasoning, stating that he wouldn’t continue to stand in honor of the flag for a country that continues to “oppresses black people and people of color.” He has since continued his fight, creating the Know Your Rights campaign and fulfilling his promise to donate a total of $1 million dollars to social justice organizations doing similar work in oppressed communities in 2018. #imwithkap #imwithreid

Oxfam marked by ‘racism, colonial behaviour and bullying behaviours’, report into sexual misconduct scandal finds

Oxfam marked by ‘racism, colonial behaviour and bullying behaviours’, report into sexual misconduct scandal finds 'The Commission has heard multiple staff raise concerns of elitism... racism and colonial behaviour... sexism, rigid hierarchies and patriarchy' The work environment at Oxfam is marked by "racism, colonial behaviour and bullying behaviours", according to a new report. The interim report produced by the independent commission, set up by Oxfam International in the wake of the Haiti scandal in 2018 to assess the company's culture, found it has a "toxic work environment". A lack of "robust policies and procedures" across the charity also led to a culture in which sexual misconduct could be misunderstood at best or, at worst, unaddressed, it said. The 30-page report details the initial findings of the commission's investigation after speaking directly with staff, communities and survivors to identify problems

Common Wishes Travis Scott Wouldn't Do The Superbowl Halftime Show

The hip-hop community has firmly stated their stance against the NFL, which is why the news that Travis Scottwould be performing during the Superbowl Halftime Show caught millions off guard. There are petitions in the thousands asking Maroon 5to step down, but having Trav join them almost negates all that hard work. Some believe that Trav will make an important political statement during his performance, others have already written him off that easily. Hip-hop legend Common isn't quick to cancel La Flame, but he wishes Trav wouldn't do the performance either.  TMZ caught up with Common on his way to Equinox and asked the historically politicized rapper how he felt about the situation. "I ain't with supporting... the NFL don't really support Black people," began Common. "When I say supporting Black people, Kaepernick said he's standing up for people who are being shot down, black and brown. The NFL basically blackballed him. They've shown how th

How the ban on alcohol fueled the revival of the Ku Klux Klan

How the ban on alcohol fueled the revival of the Ku Klux Klan The federal shutdown over funding for President Donald Trump’s border wall continues into its 25th day. Proponents of the wall claim that it will protect Americans from immigrants and dangerous, illicit drugs. It’s not the first time in American history that racism and nativism have been linked to drug use. In an article in T h e N e w Y o r k T i m e s Wednesday, Harvard historian Lisa McGirr outlines how alcohol prohibition in the 1920s was driven by anti-immigrant and racist sentiment and in turn fueled the rise of the Ku Klux Klan. It’s fairly well known that the nationwide campaign to ban alcohol, cemented with the passage of the 18th Amendment in 1919, was driven by fears of unruly, dangerous immigrants. Prohibitionists ranted about a “foreign invasion of undeveloped races” that threatened the sober, White Protestant way of life. But Prohibition was difficult to enforce, and soon violent black
