February 15, 2019 Kaepernick reaches settlement with NFL Former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick and Carolina Panthers safety Eric Reid have reached settlements with the NFL over their cases alleging collusion, their lawyers and the league announced Friday. Both men alleged that the NFL and team owners colluded to freeze them out of the league for kneeling during the national anthem to protest racial injustice and police brutality. The players' lawyers and the league said they have decided to resolve the players' grievances. "For the past several months, counsel for Mr. Kaepernick and Mr. Reid have engaged in an ongoing dialogue with representatives of the NFL. As a result of those discussions, the parties have decided to resolve the pending grievances," attorneys Mark Geragos and Ben Meiselas said in a joint statement.  #whytheracecardisplayed

Man who admitted to racist, post-Katrina triple shooting receives 10-year prison sentence

Man who admitted to racist, post-Katrina triple shooting receives 10-year prison sentence A federal judge handed a 10-year prison sentence Thursday to a white man who admitted that he shot three black men in a racist attack during Hurricane Katrina’s aftermath, ending the last open case involving civil rights abuses in New Orleans immediately following the 2005 storm. Roland Bourgeois, 56, received his punishment four months after he struck a deal with prosecutors and pleaded guilty to a hate crime and to illegally using a weapon. The deal meant U.S. District Judge Mary Ann Vial Lemmon would sentence him to between five and 10 years in prison, and she opted for the top of that range. https://www.theadvocate.com/new_orleans/news/crime_police/article_61b9caae-3082-11e9-801d-57f518e8dfc9.html

Oscar Contender 'A Night at the Garden' Shows American Nazi Rally in NYC

Oscar Contender 'A Night at the Garden' Shows American Nazi Rally in NYC It's an unlikely Oscar contender. Marshall Curry's "A Night at the Garden" has been nominated for an Academy Award for Best Documentary Short. The film, entirely comprised of archival footage, shows a 1939 rally of American Nazis at New York City's Madison Square Garden. The rally drew 20,000 people on the eve of World War II. "The lesson of the film," Curry told InsideEdition.com, is that "we are vulnerable to leaders who will stir us up against each other. https://www.insideedition.com/media/videos/oscar-contender-night-garden-shows-american-nazi-rally-nyc-50762

Donald Trump’s long history of racism, from the 1970s to 2019

Donald Trump’s long history of racism, from the 1970s to 2019 Trump has repeatedly claimed he’s “the least racist person.” His history suggests otherwise. This long history is important. It would be one thing if Trump simply misspoke one or two times. But when you take all of Trump’s actions and comments together, a clear pattern emerges — one that suggests that bigotry is not just political opportunism on Trump’s part but a real element of Trump’s personality, character, and career. Trump has a long history of racist controversies Here’s a breakdown of Trump’s history, taken largely from  Dara Lind’s list for Vox  and an  op-ed by Nicholas Kristof in the New York Times : https://www.vox.com/2016/7/25/12270880/donald-trump-racist-racism-history

Esquire's white teen cover perpetuates privilege

Esquire's white teen cover perpetuates privilege Esquire's decision to make a young white male the center of its cover story on misunderstood and undersupported youth was troubling. Its decision to use the title "An American Boy" was infuriating. The choice to release the cover during Black History Month was a slap in the face. https://www.usatoday.com/story/opinion/2019/02/13/esquires-cover-perpetuates-white-privilege-not-afforded-minorities-talker/2859551002/

Botham Jean’s Mom Breaks Her Silence On ‘Son’s Murderer,’ Amber Guyger

Botham Jean’s Mom Breaks Her Silence On ‘Son’s Murderer,’ Amber Guyger More than five months after  Botham Jean  was gunned down in his own home through no fault of his own, his mourning mother was still in disbelief about the questionable circumstances surrounding the police shooting that took the life of her 26-year-old son in Dallas.  Allison Jean  recently spoke with a radio station in her native St. Lucia to discuss all that she and her family have had to deal with since that fateful night in September when  Amber Guyger  illegally entered Botham’s apartment and fired shots into an innocent man after implausibly confusing his apartment for her own. https://newsone.com/3846138/botham-jean-mother-amber-guyger/
