BEFORE THERE WAS MOZART...

By 1775 Saint-Georges was so well established as a composer, soloist and orchestra director, that he was considered for the post of artistic director of the Royal Academy of Music at the Opéra. According to Baron von Grimm in his Correspondance littéraire, philosophique et critique (1776), Saint-Georges’ nomination collapsed in the face of strong opposition from some of the female artists at the Opéra, including the famous singers Sophie Arnould and Rosalie Levasseur. Baron Grimm described Saint-Georges to his readers as: Full Article: https://www.whytheracecardisplayed.com/post/before-there-was-mozart

Character that is mixed-race and visibly Black in comics was played by a white actress in Bat Woman

What I find funny is that whenever a character is changed from white to another race, most of the time Black, we are told that “if a Black character were turned white, cats would lie with dogs and the rivers would run red with blood.” And yet, Batwoman did that, and it happened with not even a whimper. Yes, we brought it up here, but the race bending issue was largely ignored by the rest of the internet. It’s almost as if people actually don’t care. People who do this thing, who practice racism, are bereft?

I revisit this Toni Morrison/Charlie Rose interview for many reasons. “Don't you understand that the people who do this thing, who practice racism, are bereft? There is something distorted about the psyche. It's a huge waste, and it's a corruption, and it's a distortion.”

The Sun and Daily Mail accused of 'fueling prejudice' in report on rising racist violence and hate

It cited Katie Hopkins’ infamous column in The Sun , where she likened refugees to “cockroaches” and sparked a blistering response from the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, and the same newspaper’s debunked claim over “1 in 5 Brit Muslims’ sympathy for jihadis” .  “ECRI urges the media to take stock of the importance of responsible reporting, not only to avoid perpetuating prejudice and biased information, but also to avoid harm to targeted persons or vulnerable groups,” it concluded.  Full Article: https://www.whytheracecardisplayed.com/post/the-sun-and-daily-mail-accused-of-fueling-prejudice-in-report-on-rising-racist-violence-and-hate

General election: Tory suspended after saying Holocaust events were 'exaggerated'

He said that in the discussions seven years ago, when he was 20, he referenced the views of discredited historian and Holocaust denier David Irving but had made clear in subsequent posts that he was not defending them. Mr Houghton said in a statement on Monday evening: "I apologize unreservedly for any hurt now caused by these comments and have been in contact with members of the Jewish Community in Aberdeen." He said he had "never held anti-Semitic or intolerant views". Full Article: https://www.whytheracecardisplayed.com/post/general-election-tory-suspended-after-saying-holocaust-events-were-exaggerated

Buttigieg Campaign Used Stock Photo of Kenyan Woman to Illustrate Plan for Black America

The photo of the woman kneeling and talking to a child, selected from an assortment of stock photos available for public reuse, was first posted over the summer as part of the rollout of Mr. Buttigieg’s “Douglass Plan,” billed as “a comprehensive investment in the empowerment of black America.” The plan includes health care, education and voting-rights reforms as well as proposals to address discrimination in policing and criminal justice. Mr. Buttigieg has failed to gain traction among black voters — a critical constituency in the path to the Democratic nomination — even as polls show he is building support in largely white Iowa . A poll of likely Democratic primary voters in South Carolina , released Monday by Quinnipiac University, found that Mr. Buttigieg had the support of less than 1 percent of black voters.
