WHY BLACK SUPPORT FOR BLOOMBERG IS UP

Mike Bloomberg Asked About Defending Stop and Frisk

Forget the slick ads. Watch Bloomberg flounder when challenged about stop and frisk. And that's just one piece of his barely-examined record of racism, sexism, transphobia, authoritarianism, elitism, and oligarchy. Nominating him would probably be the end of the Democratic Party. https://www.patreon.com/theiconiumfou...

RESPONSES TO RACISM IN NAZI GERMANY AND JIM CROW AMERICA

Americans and Germans of various backgrounds responded to what they saw as similarities and differences between the racial policies in each other’s countries. In some cases, the existence of race-based laws abroad were used to justify the continued use of similar laws in Germany. In other cases, communities hoped that fighting racism abroad would help defeat it at home. https://www.whytheracecardisplayed.com/post/responses-to-racism-in-nazi-germany-and-jim-crow-america
It’s a universal problem “from the top down”, he tells me. “You’ve got the Prime Minister ... and he’s got a rap sheet as long as this play of historical racist comments.” I wonder how he anticipates the audience will respond, and he talks of the power of storytelling, its ability to make people challenge themselves. “I think you’ve got to be quite courageous to really look at yourself without bias or getting defensive first. This thing about Meghan Markle, or Stormzy saying racism 100 per cent exists, speaks to an idea in this country that’s been perpetrated by the media, that it’s worse to be called racist than it actually is to be a racist.” https://www.whytheracecardisplayed.com/post/we-re-encouraged-to-think-of-racism-as-something-that-happens-in-america

BLOOMBERG: REDLINING IS RATIONAL

Bloomberg once blamed end of ‘redlining’ for 2008 economic collapse WASHINGTON (AP) — At the height of the 2008 economic collapse, then-New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg said the elimination of a discriminatory housing practice known as “redlining” was responsible for instigating the meltdown. “It all started back when there was a lot of pressure on banks to make loans to everyone,” Bloomberg said at a forum that was hosted by Georgetown University in September 2008. “Redlining, if you remember, was the term where banks took whole neighborhoods and said, ‘People in these neighborhoods are poor, they’re not going to be able to pay off their mortgages, tell your salesmen don’t go into those areas.'” https://www.pbs.org/newshour/politics...

The N.C. Supreme Court must stop racism in jury selection

The impact of these practices shows up in the most serious of cases in North Carolina. Experts analyzed North Carolina’s post- Batson death penalty cases as of 2010 and the sample size was large – 173 death penalty cases with 7,400 potential jurors. Two different statistical studies – one from the Illinois Law Review and another from Michigan State University College of Law – showed that qualified Black citizens in North Carolina were excluded from juries at about two and a half times the rate of white jurors. https://www.whytheracecardisplayed.com/post/the-n-c-supreme-court-must-stop-racism-in-jury-selection

‘Old-Boy-Style Racism’ by Police Leads to $600K Settlement

“This case vividly illustrates a ready willingness on the part of the West Linn police to abuse the enormous power they have been given, and a casual, jocular, old-boy-style racism of the kind that we Oregonians tend to want to associate with the Deep South rather than our own institutions,” Fesser’s lawyer Paul Buchanan said. https://www.whytheracecardisplayed.com/post/old-boy-style-racism-by-police-leads-to-600k-settlement
