Police investigate allegation of historical racist abuse in Chelsea youth set-up

Police investigate allegation of historical racist abuse in Chelsea youth set-up Police have been brought in to investigate allegations that black players in Chelsea’s youth system during the 1980s and 1990s were subjected to a “racist bullying culture” from members of staff. Detectives from the child-abuse investigation team at Northwood police station in north-west London are looking into a complaint that one of the teenage footballers on Chelsea’s books was the victim of assault during the years when black players as young as 11 allegedly had to endure harrowing racial abuse. “Police received an allegation of non-recent racially aggravated assault in September 2018,” a spokesman for the Metropolitan police said. “Inquiries are ongoing.” At least two former players have been interviewed and it is also understood the police have spoken to one former staff member. “There have been no arrests,” the police spokesman said. “We do not confirm who we have spoken to as part of an i

Suspensions Are Down In U.S. Schools But Large Racial Gaps Remain

Suspensions Are Down In U.S. Schools But Large Racial Gaps Remain Students in U.S. schools were less likely to be suspended in 2016 than they were in 2012. But the progress is incremental, and large gaps — by race and by special education status — remain. Research suggests suspension and expulsion, arrests and referrals to law enforcement, is associated wit

A familiar sight greeted Carolina Panthers safety Eric Reid as he walked into the locker room following a 12-9 loss to the New Orleans Saints. “You have been randomly selected by the NFL drug testing program’s Medical Advisor to complete a urine doping test today,” the small slip of paper informed him. According to Reid’s count, that makes seven drug tests for the 27-year-old despite only being a member of the Panthers organization for 11 weeks, which sure seems like a lot of drug tests for a program that is supposed to randomly select a small group of players each week. Of course, Reid doesn’t seem to think they’re random. “I’ve been here 11 weeks, I’ve been drug-tested seven times,” Reid said, per The Riot Report . “That has to be statistically impos
