Parents charge Catholic school with racism after son is taunted with racial slurs and white kid draws him as a monkey
Parents Marvin and Kenya Marshall filed a lawsuit in the U.S. District Court for the North District of Alabama, Southern Division saying their son was harassed with racial slurs while at Prince of Peace Catholic School.
According to the lawsuit, a white student made a video using the N-Word and was heard saying “escaped my slave house.” The parents also complained that the harassment went on for about a year and that the student drew a monkey picture depicting their son.
An attorney for the Catholic Diocese of Birmingham, John Whitaker released a statement regarding the incident.
“Recently one of our students was videoed using a racial slur. Although it was impossible to tell to whom the slur was directed, given the ethnic diversity of the school, we took the matter seriously,” he wrote. “He had violated school rules and was disciplined accordingly. Sadly, he is no longer a student at this school.”
