A white man pulled a gun on a group of black Muslim teens in a Minnesota McDonald’s — and the franchise’s manager kicked the teens out for the incident.
Muslim Girl, a website by and for young Muslim women, reported that the white man in question pulled the gun on the group of four teens over his apparent displeasure at them taking too long at the register.
Farida Osman, one of the teens in the group, told Muslim Girl that they were attempting to use Apple Pay to purchase their food but had never used it before, leading to some technical difficulties.
The man commented that the teens were “probably using EBT [food stamps],” and Jihan Abdullahi, one of the group, turned around to confront him.
“Just because I’m black, doesn’t mean I use EBT,” Abdullahi said to him — and according to Osman, the man began screaming curses at them.
One of the girls called over one of their male friends sitting nearby “because the man was so close she believed he was going to physically hurt her,” Osman said. The boys confronted the white man and he pulled a gun — and Osman began recording.
In the video, the teens are heard exclaiming “he has a gun!” before two McDonald’s employees, including a woman who appeared to be a manager, told the teens and the man to leave.
“I don’t give a f*ck,” the female employee said to one of the teens when they told her the man has a gun. Another white man intervened and told her not to kick the teens out with the man who pulled a gun on them and told the employee she should call the police.
“They’re gonna get shot by this racist,” the man told the employee.
The teens, however, refused to leave the store and in a second video were seen arguing with a male employee who said the man “pulled out a gun for a reason” and added that he “didn’t say why.”
Muslim Girl noted that the McDonald’s employees did finally call the police after arguing with the teens, who said they feared for their lives, about the incident. The report noted that the man got away before police arrived.
In a statement to Muslim Girl, franchise owner Paul Ostergaard claimed “nothing is more important than the safety and security of our customers and employees.”
“We take this matter seriously and are working with local law enforcement while we investigate the situation,” he said.
