THE KAEPERNICK 4
Uh, U.N.I.T.Y., U.N.I.T.Y. that's a unity
U.N.I.T.Y., love a black man from infinity to infinity
For those of you who are too young to remember this bar, it comes straight from the mouth of our big sis Queen Latifah.
This song dropped way back in 93'. So i ask you all these years later. Have we followed her example?
How bout this one?
Ignorance of each other is what has made unity impossible in the past. Therefore we need enlightenment. We need more light about each other. Light creates understanding, understanding creates love, love creates patience, and patience creates unity. Once we have more knowledge (light) about each other, we will stop condemning each other and a United front will be brought about.
-Malcolm X
Can't argue with brother Malcolm bout that. Can you? What would he think of african american unity today?
Lets try one more.
"Unity to be real must stand the severest strain without breaking."
-Mahatma Gandhi
My man Gandhi. You know I've never heard of him being wrong about anything? Pretty wild huh?
Ive written my thoughts on Travis Scott choosing to perform in this years 53rd. Superbowl. And in the end. I respected his decision.
And i remember writing a reminder to myself and others that he is an artist, and performer. So he may have something planned that will shock and satisfy us all.
I even said that, although i disagree. I forgive him for his comments about mike brown.
But I hadn't written about the shock thst i felt once i heard Big Boi from Outkast is also agreed to perform. Disappoint, betrade, bamboozled, are all understatements. Fooled would be a more appropriate word.
After all those years of talking crap about the police, not liking police and being in the game and claiming to be real, and doing so for so long and with so much support from the people you now betray.
Big Boi points out that his new album talks about issues such as police brutality and relationships. - Big Boi's interview for his then upcoming album, Boomiverse
Brah?
But gladys, you make me sick. Not only are you performing that anthem but you also chose to criticize the man who's leading the charge against police violence?
And not to him during a private conversation. But to the media?
I'm far more digusted and dissapointed in you because you went through worse times with the police than us younger ones have. Through your struggles for equality you have earned the to have a voice that should be heard in these matters. But no one nomatter how much good they have done or how long they've fought for a cause has no right to cause discord at such a crucial time. A time for unity and retraint and more sacrifice.
But instead. You express your love for an anthem that has systematically slaughterd, enslaved and discriminated against a people who you yourself are apart of. You would rather 'bring back' an anthem than show a unitied front with your people?
What or who was it that brought you to suck a pass. Or is it your old age that has betrade you?
So tell me. When did we loose you ms. Knight?
"He's a sellout. He was corrupt from the jump. He knew what he was doing from the offset. His goal was to sell us out, and he did that."
-Eric Reid on Malcolm Jenkins
Y'all know what my guy is talkin about by now. But why would my guy speak so harsh about a fellow player, protester, and brother? For those of you who don't know by now now. Let me break it down real easy like.
In a nutshell.
All the players who were protesting the anthem met with all the owners of each teams. In that meeting Eric Reid says one of the owners said they can do wonders for minority neighborhoods with the amount of resources they have. But for these resources to be released, the protests have to stop. And the owners also required a 'figure head' who will tout the success of the new deal.
Eric and other players said no to the deal because they would not be able to take a knee. But Malcolm Jenkins and other players took the deal and nolonger kneeled during the anthem.
Eric, Kaepernick, and other players would have taken the deal. But they did not want theirs and other players right to protest be taken away.
In closing for the kaepernick 4:
I myself like and agree wholeheartedly with this statement made by a staff writer for variety.
"Appearing at the Super Bowl amounts to an endorsement of the NFL’s policies and its treatment toward Kaepernick in particular."
-Jem Aswad, variety.com
But to me. One line sums up everything about performing at the 53rd. Superbowl. And it comes from Uncle Murda's '2018, Wrap Up'.
"Performin' for the Super Bowl knowin the situation."
