What Is the Chicago Police Department Hiding? New Questions Surface Regarding Harith Augustus' Death

What Is the Chicago Police Department Hiding? New Questions Surface Regarding Harith Augustus' Death  In an attempt to calm the ongoing outrage surrounding the shooting of Harith Augustus, on Sunday the Chicago Police Department released a portion of footage captured by body-worn cameras of the deadly incident. Instead of holding the CPD’s feet to the fire and asking more pointed questions, most of the media immediately accepted the one-sided narrative and declared that the police-issued video clip “ appeared to corroborate that initial version of events. ”

Tennessee Titans Player Jurrell Casey Will Continue to Protest During Upcoming NFL Season Tennessee Titans defensive lineman Jurrell Casey doesn’t care what the NFL has planned for the upcoming season because he plans to protest the killings of unarmed black men, women and children during the national anthem and the football league can fine him and he still doesn’t care. “I’m going to take a fine this year, why not?” Casey told CNN during a promotional event for the NFL’s International Series in the United Kingdom. “I’m going to protest during the flag. Dinner series spotlighting African-American chefs on its way to Charleston

Dinner series spotlighting African-American chefs on its way to Charleston Each of the pop-up dinners hosted by Soul Food Sessions, a group of Charlotte area African-American chefs that first coalesced in late 2016, has been a bit different from the meal that preceded it. While keeping the emphasis on high-quality food, organizers have adjusted menus and service formats to match the seasons and host venues: They plated jerk-spiced beef tartare on coco bread at a borrowed Italian restaurant last summer, and for a holiday mixer at a community center, they set out fruit cake points with braised pheasant. “To be 100 percent honest with you, that was the first time we had a majority African-American crowd,” Michael Bowling said the morning after a jubilant six-course meal scheduled to coincide with Juneteenth, the annual commemoration of slavery’s end. “It was nice to see that many African-Americans in the room.”

Remains of Black People Forced Into Labor After Slavery Are Discovered in Texas

Remains of Black People Forced Into Labor After Slavery Are Discovered in Texas The remains of dozens of people found at a construction site in Texas this year are mostly likely those of African-Americans who were forced to work on a plantation there around the turn of the 20th century, officials said this week. That finding, announced Monday, opens a window onto a little-remembered period in which blacks in certain Southern states were essentially treated like slaves post-emancipation. The remains of about 95 people were discovered early this year on a construction site outside Houston, where the Fort Bend Independent School District is building a new school, according to school district officials and court records. This week, archaeologists announced that the bones were most likely those of African-American laborers who worked as part of the so-called convict lease system, in which the state of Texas outsourced prisoners to work and live on plantations. The researchers e
