Trump speechwriter fired after he was outed for appearance at conference beside white nationalist

President Donald Trump’s speechwriter was fired last week after news broke that he had spoken at a news conference attended by well-known white nationalists.

According to The Washington Post, Darren Beattie was ousted Friday after it became public that he appeared at the 2016 H.L. Menchen Club conference. Bettie spoke on a panel with Peter Brimelow, who founded the anti-immigrant website Vdare.com.

The Southern Poverty Law Center cited Brimelow as a “white nationalist” and “regularly publishes works by white supremacists, anti-Semites, and others on the radical right.”

Brimelow described himself as someone who believes in “racial nationalism” hopes the future of the United States precipitates along “racial lines.”

CNN’s KFile reported Sunday that infamous white nationalist Richard Spencer is a prominent figure at the Menchen event. When the KFile reached out to the White House for comment about their investigation, Beattie was reportedly urged to step down. He refused to resign, claiming the conference wasn’t racist. It was then that he was terminated.

Beattie worked under head speechwriter Vince Haley and has worked on speeches for Stephen Miller and as a policy advisor.

“In 2016 I attended the Mencken conference in question and delivered a stand-alone, academic talk titled ‘The Intelligentsia and the Right,’” Bettie said in a statement Sunday. “I said nothing objectionable and stand by my remarks completely,” Beattie said in the statement. “It was the honor of my life to serve in the Trump Administration. I love President Trump, who is a fearless American hero, and continue to support him one hundred percent. I have no further comment.”
