The 'Gay Pass' in Rap
Who has one. Who wants one. Who needs one. And why.
First things first. I know that both rap and hip-hop are driven by bravado, reputation, boastfullness as well as (among other things) competitiveness. These things often lead to insults, physical confrontations, fatalities, and a loss of an artists freedom. Rap is competition were not only the losers reputation as an artist is on the line, but that of his entourage, friends, family, and that of even his own hometown. Talk about a must win.
In rap, bragging rights are everything. But its what an artists brags about is what's most important. Money, cars, clothes and mabye most important...one's manhood, sexual prowess, aka - females. Sex is an important topic in rap. It creeps up in every other bar, in every type of line, in every type of rap song.
Like rap itself, the subject of sex is relatable to men. All guys boast about and compare the number of females they've had sex with. Its cool, fun.
But what if a gay guy joins in the fun and starts bragging about how many men he's fucked? And goes into detail about each encounter? With the same bravado and enthusiasm as the straight guys showed?
Homosexuality is considered a huge no- no in rap. One that female mc's have far less problems with.
For the record. Young ma is the truth. In my opinion she's one of the top 5 rap artist out. When i talk about her amongst my friends, i dont even talk her a bitch. Cause that would be disrespectful to the god.
There's no doubt that lyrically you'd be hard pressed to find another artist of this generation who's better. She uses the same formula of bravado and competitiveness, as the other rappers do. And she too uses sex. But in her songs she raps about her sexual intentions for members of the same sex that she is. How fine they are. What they got on. What she'd do to them sexually. The amount shes had.
Some of the old school cats crumble about this curve ball with in the genre. But for the most part fans have excepted the fact that young ma is totally gay. And being so, has not negativlty effected her career.
Chingy simply took a picture with a trans woman and his career was finished overnight. During beef or disagrements, one of the greatest insults a rival can rap about anothet is to bring his manhood into question. It is a verbal tactic that can be used to devastating effect.
Were all aware of what Young Buck is going through. To rappers, homosexuality is used as an insult. 50 used it against Ja-rule on his classic diss track 'Back Down'. When a feminine male voice can be heard defended 'her' 'boo' 'Jeffrey At...keens'.
Then some years later 50 himself fell victim to the gay tactic by Vivica Fox's insinuation. Young Ma is only an example. From the early days of rap a female artists sexual preference hasnt been a consern of their fans. Legeneds such as, Queen lattiffa, Mc Lyte, The Brat, Lady of Rage, Nikki d, an on an on an on. For the most part caught no shmoke about who they fuck.
Nor did their sexual preference appear in any diss tracks, used as an insult by other artists or ruined any of their careers.
Bobby Valentino, who's not even a rapper; was openly shamed by the public. As well as by other artists in the music industry once his video came to light. While female artist like Nikki Minaj and Cardi b, openly express not only feelings of lust they have towards other females, but also their desires and willness to allow another female to 'eat them out' or vice versa.
Joseline Hernandez can be easily found on the web tossing a females salad.
Imagine a male rapper detailing in his song about what he did sexually to another man. What type if man he prefers. And what he would like to do sexually to said man. Now picture the video ti the rap song with an all male ansamble. Full of scantly clad, bare chested men the pool, in the Chacoozy, popping champane, riding on the ack of jetskies, mansion in the back drop. twerking and the whole nine ;).
Now of course whether you enjoy this scene or not is up to your own preference. But i set such a scene to bring home my suprise that even in this Woke, SJW, Safespace, 'Gender Neutral' heavy society. There is still no call for, no march for, no hashtag for equality or atleast tolerence for homosexual men in rap culture. Why are gay men still 'Not Allowed' in this particular genre of music, while females skate by with ease?
We are all aware of double standards. But the question of why certain ones apply for certain genders or races of people is more complicated to explain.
Me. I fucks with trannys. They give great head and are more approachable than girls. But im no rapper. I'm secure in my own manhood, and too old to hold onto an old reputation.
Even after the feminists movement, the marches and the #metoo and the independent woman stuff. Men are still held to a higher standard than females.
We are expected to do the right the things and looked down upon by society if seen as not living up to those higher standards.
While on the other hand, females are still seen as children who just dont know any better.
Nowadays, much is said about toxic masculinity and what a privilege and how easy its been to be a man. But i guess when it comes to homosexuality in hip- hop, men have their own ceilings made of glass.
