On December 3, 2014, protests erupted in NYC when it was announced that a grand jury did not indict Daniel Pantaleo, the officer that killed Eric Garner. Grand juries function as a defense of brutal and killer police. In general, grand juries will go along with what the prosecution wants. There is no defense attorney. The prosecutor lays out the evidence and why they think a trial should take place. The problem with this setup is that the vast majority of district attorneys are closely allied with the police. The counterwave of more progressive DAs is a more recent phenomenon. So the public was rightly outraged when a secretive grand jury process said that Daniel Pantaleo choking Eric Garner to death wasn’t even worthy of a trial. Eric Garner said he couldn’t breathe 11 different times. Pantaleo didn’t care. He used a banned chokehold and took Garner’s life. • Hawk Newsome, thank you for the reminder about this important date. • frankiedatrucker Put the sign down get your own justice 6 yr and b4 long list of bodies Noone cares its time itsjustusdont_trip Still chanting and screaming the same phrase for YEARS now.
