The title of the show was first said by Fox News’ Laura Ingraham who publicly told James and fellow athlete Kevin Durant to refrain from sharing their political ideologies and stick to their professions. For James, he turned that statement into a new program that’ll display why athletes like them simply can’t afford to “shut up and dribble.”
On Saturday (Nov. 3), executive producers LeBron James and Maverick Carter will debut their Showtime production titled Shut Up And Dribble. The three-part documentary will analyze and revisit sports history’s most political and social moments.
“The best thing she did was help me create more awareness,” James said after Ingraham’s comments went viral. The line “I am more than an athlete” soon came to fruition, encouraging pro-athletes across sports to join social movements. “I mean too much to society, too much to the youth, too much to so many kids who feel like they don’t have a way out,” James noted.
Shut Up And Dribble premieres Nov. 3 at 9 p.m. ET on Showtime.
