Mississippi bar kicks out man who wore KKK robe to Halloween costume party hours after Pittsburgh massacre
A bar in the city of Picayune, Mississippi over the weekend kicked out a customer who attended its Halloween costume party wearing a Ku Klux Klan robe and waving the Mississippi state flag.
The Clarion Ledger reports that the owners of Mutt & BC’s Bar & Grill in Picayune confronted a white man dressed in the KKK outfit and told him that he would have to leave the bar and that he was not ever welcome to come back.
“We do not tolerate or condone racism at any level of our business, customers or staff,” co-owner Bryan Carroll explained to the Clarion Ledger. “Everyone is welcome and we do have all walks of life and all races that patronize our place.”
The decision to wear a KKK robe in public on Saturday was particularly controversial because a white supremacist in Pittsburgh had just gunned down eleven Jews at a synagogue just hours earlier.
Picayune Mayor Ed Pinero applauded Mutt & BC’s for taking assertive action in removing the KKK-clad customer.
“The city of Picayune does not support any type of racist or derogatory actions, period, whether it’s true to life or a costume party,” he said. “It’s just unacceptable behavior.”
The KKK costume first drew publicity after Facebook user Chance Delaney posted a photo of him in the bar on her page — see the original post below.
